In 1988, Lexington's Council on Aging and the Minuteman newspaper revived the tradition of awarding a historic walking stick to honor a Lexington resident. Donated to Cary Library in 1976, the Edwin B. Worthen Collection documents life in Lexington from the early 19th to the mid-20th centuries. According to a 2004 book by Lexington historian Richard Kollen titled Lexington: From Libertys Birthplace to Progressive Suburb, Adams used the Minutemans pages during World War II to promote wartime measures such as keeping the lights turned off at night so that the pilots of any incoming German bombers wouldnt be able to see their targets.
